 Announcing the new Lake Norman Chess Club in Cornelius, Huntersville area. A short drive for most coming from Charlotte down I77 or I485. Now even faster when using toll lanes.  The Lake Norman Chess Club has started it's first 5 round tournament with one round to be played each Thursday evening starting at 7:15 pm. After 5 weeks/rounds the tournament is submitted to the USCF to be rated. The chess club will meet at McAlister’s Deli located at 19930 W Catawba Ave, which is just off I77 Exit 28 Cornelius.  Participants must be members of the US Chess Federation. We love kids but this club is intended for adults or young adults. Players must be 13 and above to play. Enjoy a new club experience, play with other adults with comfortable seating, good food and beverage at a reasonable price, and multi restrooms. Management encourages players to dine in before games if possible, which helps support our club space. We ask that you don’t bring any food or beverage to the club. 
1st round special:
 We will offer a cash prize fund for the first 5 rounder! Our 1st 5 rounder will have $175 cash prizes. First place is $100 cash, under 1600 $50 cash prize & under 1200 player with most points gets $25 cash. Rounds are $5 per round for nonmembers or $1 for members. Yearly membership available for $25. Dues or weekly fees help us offer cash prizes or future tournaments and an excellent chess environment for players.
Tiebreak System:
Cash prizes always split evenly between tied players.
Registration:
Players must register to play before the round starts at 7:15 pm. We encourage players to email at least 2 hours before game, if possible, with intent to play. This gets you registered and helps us begin games on time. If players are running late  they may call  704-608-7649 prior to the round and ask to be paired. Unless you have registered or called ahead to be paired you should be inside McAlister’s not later than 7:00 pm to register. McAlister’s closes at 10pm and we must start games promptly at 7:15 to be within our time control. Thank you for your cooperation.
Time Control:
G/75; delay 5
Each player receives 75 minutes plus 5 second delay each move to complete each game.

The rated games simply mean we track history of your game’s wins, losses or draws thru USCF, (United States Chess Federation). This will not only give you a chess rating  but also a historical record of your games and a graph of rating and statistics you may follow to gauge your improvement in this great game. A rating also allows organizers to pair your games with persons of similar rating for the enjoyment of all.

 Directions: From Charlotte the Lake Norman Chess Club will be located a short drive up I77 to exit 28 then take a left and McAlister's is 1/2 mile  down on left. Drive past McAlister's and make a u-turn to entrance of the chess club. If you are coming from Charlotte, you may want to try the new toll lanes, for a even faster trip and take Exit 28 at Catawba Ave. A new chess club experience awaits that will be worth the drive.

Club Experience:
